A young Palestinian woman who was kept locked in dark room for 10 years by her father has told how she survived the ordeal by listening to the radio, dreaming of seeing sunshine again and finding small pleasure in an apple she was fed each day. Baraa Melhem, 20, said she was enjoying her first taste of freedom after a decade of isolation and threats of rape and abuse, and she hopes to use her experience to help others.

Dressed in red sweat pants, a headscarf and clutching a toy doll given to her by her mother, Baraa said: “I have joy now. My life has begun.”
Baraa was rescued by Palestinian security forces in the West Bank town of Qalqiliya on Saturday after an aunt notified police.
Adnan Damiri, a Palestinian police spokesman, said she was in “deplorable” condition.
Her father and stepmother, both Arab citizens of Israel, were turned over to Israeli authorities where they are now in custody.

BEIJING – Eleven rare Siberian tigers kept in small cages and fed only chicken bones have died of malnutrition at a cash-strapped zoo in China’s frigid northeast, state media said Friday.

A manager at the Shenyang Forest Wild Animal Zoo in Liaoning province, however, said the animals had died of disease.

Siberian tigers are one of the world’s rarest species, with just 300 believed remaining in the wild.

King Penguins are notorious for their prim, tuxedoed appearance — but a recently discovered all-black penguin seems unafraid to defy convention. In what has been described as a “one in a zillion kind of mutation,” biologists say that the animal has lost control of its pigmentation, an occurrence that is extremely rare. Other than the penguin‘s monochromatic outfit, the animal appears to be perfectly healthy – and then some. “Look at the size of those legs,” said one scientist, “It’s an absolute monster.”

Man sues Axe, as unable to get girl (lack of ‘Lynx effect)

In what could prove to be a major marketing and legal embarrassment for Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL), a 26-year-old man has filed a case against the FMCG company, which owns the Axe brand of men grooming products, for ‘cheating’ and causing him ‘mental suffering’. The plaintiff has cited his failure to attract any girl at all even though he’s been using Axe products for over seven years now. Axe advertisements suggest that the products help men in instantly attracting women.

Vaibhav Bedi, the petitioner, also surrendered all his used, unused and half-used deodorant sprays, perfume sticks and roll-ons, anti-perspirants, aftershaves, body washes, shampoos, and hair gels to the court, and demanded a laboratory test of the products and narcotics test of the brand managers of Axe. Vaibhav was pushed to take this step when his bai (maid) beat him with a broom when he tried to impress her by appearing naked in front of her after applying all the Axe products.

Where the fuck is the Axe effect? I’ve been waiting for it for over seven years.
