Pakistan becomes 20th most attractive outsourcing destination

CHICAGO: Deteriorating cost advantages and improved labor quality are driving a dramatic shift in the geography of off shoring according to the latest edition of global management consulting firm AT Kearney’s Global Services Location Index (GSLI), a ranking of the most attractive off shoring destinations. AT Kearney is a global management consulting firm that uses strategic insight, tailored solutions and a collaborative working style to help clients achieve sustainable results.

While India, China and Malaysia retain the top three spots they’ve occupied since the inaugural GSLI in 2004, a fundamental shift in the index has taken place as once strong Central European countries have yielded ground to countries in Asia, the Middle East and North Africa.

Pakistan has become the 20th most attractive outsourcing destination, according to consulting management firm AT Kearney. Even as concerns increase about Pakistan’s stability and the growing displaced population due to ongoing military operations with the Taliban, the country made a significant jump on AT Kearney’s 2009 Global Services Location Index released May 18. Pakistan went from number 30 in 2007 to number 20 in 2009.

The GSLI analyses and ranks the top 50 countries worldwide for locating outsourcing activities, including IT services and support, contact centres and back-office support. Each country’s score is composed of a weighted combination of relative scores on 43 measurements, which are grouped into three categories: financial attractiveness, people and skills availability and business environment.

Established Central European countries including Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia, once among the premier off shoring destinations for Western Europe companies, have fallen significantly due to a rapid increase in costs driven by both wage inflation and currency appreciation against the dollar. Meanwhile, low-cost countries in Southeast Asia and the Middle East made significant gains this year as the quality and availability of their labor forces improved. Egypt, Jordan and Vietnam ranked in the GSLI’s top 10 for the first time ever.

“While cost remains a major driver in decisions about where to outsource, the quality of the labour pool is gaining importance as companies view the labour market through a global lens driven by talent shortages at home, particularly in higher, value-added functions,” said Norbert Jorek, a partner with AT Kearney and managing director of the firm’s Global Business Policy Council. “In response, governments all over the world are investing in the human capital demanded by the off shoring industry.”

The Middle East and North Africa is emerging as a key off shoring region because of its large, well educated population and its proximity to Europe. In addition to Egypt and Jordan, ranked at sixth and ninth, respectively, Tunisia (17th), United Arab Emirates (29th) and Morocco (30th) all rank among in the GSLI’s top 30 countries. “The Middle East and Africa area has the potential to redraw the off shoring map and in the process bring much needed opportunities for its large, underemployed educated class,” said Johan Gott, project manager for the Global Services Location Index.

Saharan Africa also showed strength. Ghana ranked 15th, Mauritius 25th, Senegal 26th and South Africa 39th.

Countries in Latin America and the Caribbean continue to capitalize on their proximity to the United States as nearshore destinations. Chile placed highest among countries from the region, ranking 8th on the strength of its political stability and favorable business environment. Other strong performers in the region include Mexico (11th), Brazil (12th) and Jamaica, which rose 11 places to rank 23rd.

India, China and Malaysia continue to lead the index by a wide margin through a unique combination of high people skills, favorable business environment and low cost. In particular, India has remained at the forefront of the outsourcing industry and actually has become an enabler for industry growth through expansion of Indian off shoring firms into other countries.

“The dynamics of global off shoring are clearly shifting as companies re-evaluate the political risks, labor arbitrage and skill requirements in the context of the likely aftermath of the global economic crisis,” said Paul A. Laudicina, AT Kearney chairman and managing officer. “Risk management will take on new importance to protect global service delivery from interruption and ensure capabilities are strategically dispersed rather than concentrated in a few cost-effective locations.” daily times monitor

Giant Internet worm to change tactics April 1 Time Bomb

The fast-moving Conficker computer worm, a scourge of the Internet that has infected at least 3 million PCs, is set to spring to life in a new way on Wednesday — April Fools’ Day.

That’s when many of the poisoned machines will get more aggressive about “phoning home” to the worm’s creators over the Internet. When that happens, the bad guys behind the worm will be able to trigger the program to send spam, spread more infections, clog networks with traffic, or try and bring down Web sites.

Technically, this could cause havoc, from massive network outages to the creation of a cyberweapon of mass destruction that attacks government computers. But researchers who have been tracking Conficker say the date will probably come and go quietly.

More likely, these researchers say, the programming change that goes into effect April 1 is partly symbolic — an April Fools’ Day tweaking of Conficker’s pursuers, who for now have been able to prevent the worm from doing significant damage.

“I don’t think there will be a cataclysmic network event,” said Richard Wang, manager of the U.S. research division of security firm Sophos PLC. “It doesn’t make sense for the guys behind Conficker to cause a major network problem, because if they’re breaking parts of the Internet they can’t make any money.”

Previous Internet threats were designed to cause haphazard destruction. In 2003 a worm known as Slammer saturated the Internet’s data pipelines with so much traffic it crippled corporate and government systems, including ATM networks and 911 centers.

Far more often now, Internet threats are designed to ring up profits. Control of infected PCs is valuable on the black market, since the machines can be rented out, from one group of bad guys to another, and act as a kind of illicit supercomputer, sending spam, scanning Web sites for security holes, or participating in network attacks.

The army of Conficker-infected machines, known as a “botnet,” could be one of the greatest cybercrime tools ever assembled. Conficker’s authors just need to figure out a way to reliably communicate with it.

Infected PCs need commands to come alive. They get those commands by connecting to Web sites controlled by the bad guys. Even legitimate sites can be co-opted for this purpose, if hackers break in and use the sites’ servers to send out malicious commands.

So far, Conficker-infected machines have been trying to connect each day to 250 Internet domains — the spots on the Internet where Web sites are parked. The bad guys need to get just one of those sites under their control to send their commands to the botnet. (The name Conficker comes from rearranging letters in the name of one of the original sites the worm was connecting to.)

Conficker has been a victim of its success, however, because its rapid spread across the Internet drew the notice of computer security companies. They have been able to work with domain name registrars, which administer Web site addresses, to block the botnet from dialing in.

Now those efforts will get much harder. On April 1, many Conficker-infected machines will generate a list of 50,000 new domains a day that they could try. Of that group, the botnet will randomly select 500 for the machines to actually query.

The bad guys still need to get only one of those up and running to connect to their botnet. And the bigger list of possibilities increases the odds they’ll slip something by the security community.

Researchers already know which domains the infected machines will check, but pre-emptively registering them all, or persuading the registrars to neutralize all of them, is a bigger hurdle.

“We expect something will happen, but we don’t quite know what it will look like,” said Jose Nazario, manager of security research for Arbor Networks, a member of the “Conficker Cabal,” an alliance trying to hunt down the worm’s authors.

“With every move that they make, there’s the potential to identify who they are, where they’re located and what we can do about them,” he added. “The real challenge right now is doing all that work around the world. That’s not a technical challenge, but it is a logistical challenge.”

Conficker’s authors also have updated the worm so infected machines have new ways to talk to each other. They can share malicious commands rather than having to contact a hacked Web site for instructions.

That variation is important because it shows that even as security researchers have neutralized much of what the botnet might do, the worm’s authors “didn’t lose control of their botnet,” said Michael La Pilla, manager of the malicious code operations team at VeriSign Inc.’s iDefense division.

The Conficker outbreak illustrates the importance of keeping current with Internet security updates. Conficker moves from PC to PC by exploiting a vulnerability in Windows that Microsoft Corp. fixed in October. But many people haven’t applied the patch or are running pirated copies of Windows that don’t get the updates.

Unlike other Internet threats that trick people into downloading a malicious program, Conficker is so good at spreading because it finds vulnerable PCs on its own and doesn’t need human involvement to infect a machine.

Once inside, it does nasty things. The worm tries to crack administrators’ passwords, disables security software, blocks access to antivirus vendors’ Web sites to prevent updating, and opens the machines to further infections by Conficker’s authors.

Someone whose machine is infected might have to reinstall the operating system.

Iran having a nuclear weapon : Top U.S. army officer

Top U.S. army officer: Iran has enough material to make nuclear bomb

·Iran has enough material to build a nuclear bomb, Michael Mullen said Sunday.
·”And Iran having a nuclear weapon, I’ve believed for a long time…” Mullen said.
·IAEA: Iran still refused to fulfill UN’s requirement of stopping its uranium enrichment.
US army
WASHINGTON, Mar. 1 (Xinhua) — Iran has enough material to build a nuclear bomb, said U.S. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Michael Mullen on Sunday.

“We think they do, quite frankly,” Mullen told CNN’s “State of the Union” presided by John King, when asked if Iran had enough nuclear material to build the nuke.

“And Iran having a nuclear weapon, I’ve believed for a long time, is a very, very bad outcome for the region and for the world,” said the top U.S. army officer.

In a report submitted last month to the UN Security Council, Mohamed El Baradei, director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said Iran still refused to fulfill UN’s requirement of stopping its uranium enrichment activity.

Responding to the IAEA report, Iran has vowed to continue its nuclear work.

Iran’s uranium enrichment program is questioned by many parties. Western countries like the United States claim that Iran intends to secretly develop nuclear weapons, while the UN Security Council also requires Iran to suspend its uranium enrichment activity.

However, Iran insists that its nuclear plan is only for peaceful purposes, and continues its uranium enrichment activity despite the pressure from the western countries and relevant resolutions and sanctions of the United Nations.

Kelly Clarkson My Life Would Suck Without You Lyrics
Guess this means you’re sorry
You’re standing at my door
Guess this means you take back
What you said before
Like how much you wanted
Anyone but me
Said you’d never come back
But here you are again

Cause we belong together now
Forever united here somehow
You got a piece of me
And honestly
My life would suck without you

Maybe I was stupid for telling you goodbye
Maybe I was wrong for tryin’ to pick a fight
I know that I’ve got issues
But you’re pretty messed up too
Anyway, I found out I’m nothing without you

Cause we belong together now
Forever united here somehow
You got a piece of me
And honestly
My life would suck without you

Being with you is so dysfunctional
I really shouldn’t miss you, but I can’t let you go
Oh yeah

Cause we belong together now
Forever united here somehow
You got a piece of me
And honestly
My life would suck without you

Pakistani Hackers Hacked Indian Oil Web Site

In response to an action by HMG, Indian script kiddie, who hacked OGRA’s website, A Pakistani Group called PCA (Pakistan Cyber Army) has reportedly hacked at least five Indian websites including http://www.ongcindia.com/ – Indian Oil and Natural Gas website.

Other websites which were hacked by Pakistanis include

http://www.syscontech.in/

http://www.iirs.gov.in/

http://www.ctram.indianrail.gov.in/

http://www.kvrtm.org.in/

I got a chance to speak with PCA, who confirmed that their group knew this web-server for last two years which is hosting most of Indian Government Websites, but they never hacked it, despite it was never a big deal for them. PCA was of the view that they are not criminals and bear no bad intentions for anyone, but they could not see Pakistani websites getting hacked by Indians; so they had to hack these Indian websites.

PCA left following message on http://www.ongcindia.com/

This is a message from PCA for HMG(script_kiddies) in return to the ogra defacement.

Backoff , go read some course books else you will loose both , your name and this game.

We will literally SMOKE YOUR DOORS OFF like other groups did before.

This is just a warning to Indian authorities either

to launch inquiry against HMG or get ready for more action.

We were sleeping but not Dead.

Now Face the consequences

HAroon + HAmza + ABunasar

Naveed + Hassan

Pakistan ZindaBad

PCA asked Indian authorities to take action against HMG (the group that hacked OGRA’s website). The most notable part of this defacement is

This is just a warning to Indian authorities either to launch inquiry against HMG or get ready for more action

As I mentioned in my previous post that OGRA’s website was hacked by a Indian Script kiddes, who was actually not aware of the consequences. But his little mistake may fan the fire of cyber war between India and Pakistan. Exactly the same was as it happened before; meaning that a little mistake is going to lead us to a situation which can damage both countries’ websites.

Previously, both countries remained in state of cyber war during 1997 to 2002. From Pakistan’s side the war was fought by Dr. Nuker, the founder of PHC “Pakistan Hackers Club” and MFRD, founder of G-force. These two groups were responsible for defacing hundreds of Indian websites, and broke all previous records of cyber war history. Both of the Pakistani Groups then settled issues with NEO, an Indian hacker to conclude that 5 years running Cyber war. I got this email from PCA (Pakistan Cyber Army, who recently hacked http://www.ongcindia.com/ – Indian Oil and Natural Gas website) about how they hacked Indian website and what exactly made them hack it. Email is pasted below Note: I am displaying this email as it is, without any editing.

okay now everybody listen First of all why were Indian sites defaced by us? HMG has been playing around with Pakistani communities and websites for a long time now and on the top of that they are thinking that Pakistanis can’t do anything? LOL dude get a life. These defacement’s were not dedicated for the fame of our group name PCA. Pakistan Cyber Army this group name was created right 5 minutes before we defaced these websites. This means we don’t have any intention to spread our names nor we need to show our skill levels. This is just a matter of our nation Pakistan. We cant stop HMG from defacing our websites … all rite go deface some more..don’t come in forums and say we are crying and can’t do anything..we don’t have time for this **** seriously.. and yea … back off.. otherwise we really need to take out some time.. and as we said before ..smoke your doors off till u burn to ashes. (no offense ) OH the defaced websites got fixed? All the people who think that anyone can control a website permanently if you break into it.. they are wrong.. there is no such way you can control a website completely. You can put your page for a period of time , until the owner of that website sees it and because he has the hosting control he is the only real owner no matter how deep you can go into it. So it has to get back to normal page anyways. that’s why screen shots are used HMG RE HACKED?? LOL all the Pakistani’s should really be proud of this. First of all ..instead of bringing the site to the normal page, they are putting their messages on their own Indian websites HAHAHAHA lol anyways never mind .. hacking a website again is not a big thing, anyone can do this if you are sure about the existence of a vulnerability in a website. HMG hacked our oil and gas website.. that was a random act..

Our attack was planned , and dedicated to their OIL AND GAS website which makes sense plus it shows we Pakistanis can do it.

see we are white hats, don’t force us to show our black hat sides , that be really bad.

PCA

Nokia N97 Review & Specifications

Nokia’s True iPhone Killer real touch screen magic by nokia better then 5800 & N96

So, guess what Nokia came up with as a follow up for their Nokia 5800 XpressMusic Touchscreen phone? The Nokia N97, a Google G1 phone look-alike that sports a 3.5 inch touchscreen and a slide-out QWERTY keyboard.

Design

The Nokia N97 looks like a cross between a lot of different phones from the iPhone to the Google G1 Phone to the AT&T Tilt (HTC TyTN II). Up front, the Nokia N97’s 3.5 inch screen dominates the whole front of the phone except for the little button on the bottom left side corner which serves as the shortcut key to the N series multimedia applications. The call and end buttons are touch sensitive like ROKR E8. On the top of the Nokia N97 is the 3.5mm headphone jack and the power button. The Nokia N97 is just a tad bit larger and thicker than the iPhone and when you slide out the QWERTY keypad, you’re reminded of the HTC TyTN II with it’s angled screen. The Nokia N97 feels solid enough to hold though it just feels a bit too large especially if you have small hands. The QWERTY keypad is evenly spaced and you won’t have trouble typing nor would you have to worry about pressing two buttons at a time. The buttons are very minimal compared with other QWERTY keypads from HTC or Blackberry. I guess this is to make room for the directional pad on the left side. The sliding mechanism feels solid enough though I’m a bit worried about the hinge that connects the screen and the keypad since it looks thin and breakable.

Features and Performance

The performance of the Nokia N97 is based purely on the demo version but I have to say I’m quite impressed. It looks like Nokia has fine tuned the Symbian OS to work well with touchscreen. On the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, you won’t get much of the swiping and flicking finger action but they’ve refined it so that you can get that much out of the Nokia N97. Also, compared with the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic demo version, the Nokia N97 interface is quite fast and responsive. You can barely see any hiccup on the accelerometer transition or when you’re navigating the Symbian OS. The user interface on the Nokia N97 is also quite new but is still very user-friendly. Like I said, it’s touch optimized and there are a lot of widgets you can play with. The built-in browser also looks promising though I wasn’t able to see if it supports YouTube desktop PC version. Scrolling through webpages isn’t as smooth and fluid as when you’re surfing the Safari Browser on the iPhone but the webpages renders quickly though I don’t know if that’s because the pages that the person demonstrating the phone is already saved and bookmarked on the phone’s memory.

The Nokia N97 also supports TV Out, WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth, GPS, FM radio, and a 5 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics. If the camera on the Nokia N97 is as good as that on the Nokia N95 then I’m sure that the Nokia N97 won’t have any problems when it comes to its camera software. The Nokia N97 runs on Quadband GSM networks and supports 3G/HSDPA.

Anita Ayub “I was more of a hit as a controversial model”

Anita Ayub said: I was never a hit. Neither as a model on the ramp nor on the screen as an actresses in India or in Pakistan. I guess I was more of a hit as a controversial model because of my interviews and as a person people always wanted to hate me because.

I was doing and saying things which many people wanted to but could not. Mein nay kon sa teer mara tha. Whether a hit or not Anita Ayubs name despite her being in oblivion for two-and-a-half years, still strikes a chord. She remains a photographers delight with her beautiful hazel, sultry eyes that add an aura of mystery to her personality.

Mother of a one-year-old boy, she still has the looks of the early 80s when she first stepped on the catwalk. Her popularity even today is such that a bhuttay wala on the roadside recognizes her.

On April 13 95 Anita left for New York, where she got married and settled down, the day she completed television serial Doosra Raasta. She was here recently for her sister Ambers wedding and to meet her family. In a way she internationally disappeared for these was no publicity or any news about

her where about for the tabloid press to fall on. I was a horrible actress and nobody here would tolerate me on the screen. She candidly admits I knew I had to learn some acting skills so I went to Indias Taneja Institute to attend a few courses in the field. Obviously I had to stay some where, so, a paying guest accommodation had to be arranged for me.

Anita AyubHer landlord Saumil Patel who lived in Ahmedabad met her, they got attached and one fine day two years ago, I told him I liked him and wanted to marry him. Saumil thought Anita had lost her head. She at that time could not get her visa extended (after having stayed there for three years) and it would have been impractical for them to live in separate countries.

Saumil thought I was very immature but I was adamant on settling down to have a proper life, no more showbiz and above all I wanted to have a baby (a legitimate one, of course). There comes a time when every woman takes the decision to settle down and I think I did it at the right moment.

Most people have not believed Anita Ayub getting married. Many would have doubted the sanity of the man marrying celluloid doll who had a mixed plate of scandals, true or false, lagging behind her you know even my friends used to laugh at the idea. Saumil and Anita got married in the United States after he converted to Islam.

I do not say that I am a very good Muslim, but under no circumstances would I have converted. They now have an adorable little baby boy and a wonderful fairy tale life with Suamil visiting her every second month in the US from India!

After staying in India for three years. Anita was refused an entry visa. There have been many speculations on this account. Some believe that being herself a Kashmiri, she sided with the Mujahideen.

Others say that like Mohsin Hasan Khan she was forcefully sent out by the orthodox shiv sena, or that she was deported because of her involvement in the Bombay bomb blast in 1993. My involvement with the blast had nothing to do with politics.

Hundreds of people were injured and I helped to collect blood, chaddars, clothing etc. Nobody knew I was a assisting them, and till today nobody has mentioned it.

The only thing that became a problem for me was that unlike other Pakistani actresses who had worked in India, such as Salma Agha. Zeba Bakhtiar and Somi Ali had five years multiple Indian visas because of their British and American nationality. I had a Pakistani

nationality. I had to get my visa renewed very often, for which I had to go to the Home Ministry in New Delhi. Although I had the request documents, people started thinking I was a spy trying to get some information from the minister.

But they never realized I did not have the intelligence to be a spy, I am just a dumb model. Finally they refused to renew my visa.

Her first movie in India was a Dev An and production Pyar Ka Tarana. The second one Gangster was half way through when she left for the US, and then could not enter India, but the production was completed abroad. Both were flops! When I came to Pakistan I did two movies Chaltee Ka Naam Gari and Sab Kay Baap, both were bakwaas and again flops!

For Anita Ayub, the three years of working and living in India was quite an experience. I learnt a lot including acting. I feel I improved because of the courses and the exposure to the film industry, which I observed very closely.

She says, There is not much physical beauty in India, especially if compared to Pakistan. The glamorous affect is created totally by make-up and camera tricks that make them beautiful on screen.

They are very simple in dressing in real life; they go to studios in shorts. Very simple! The males are quite conceited about their macho, cool looks which generally our men are not bothered about. And I found it very funny that the actors whenever seen in public have a habit of coming their hair all the time!

In Pakistan Anita knew several young men; it is amazing that she found her man in India. According to her, Men out here have a strange attitude. They would say ˜yeh shaadi material nahin hai! she can be a good girlfriend; I can show her off, but shaadi no way.

People thought Anita Ayub was controversial and badmash. Saumil and I did not have a lovey dovey affair. The kind of respect he gave me I think no man in Pakistan would have given me, probably I was very outspoken in Pakistan, which people could not digest.

If I was badmsh in Pakistan, how come there was not a single scandal about me in India where there is an open society, men women live together. I was living alone for three years with no restrictions on me. No doubt Anita must have led a very straight life for although featured in Stardust, Movie, Cineblitz etc; no gossip pertaining to her was ever reported

She has settled in New York with her son Shezap, now a year and-a-half, which allows her sometime to work other than in the house! For some time she hosted shows in New York on TV (ATNT).

One might get the impression that she leads an unsettled life but I am very happy and only taking care of my baby. I have a wonderful husband, and the most lovable in laws.

She definitely is a devoted wife who seeks her husbands permission for whatever she does, including giving this interview! She does not miss the glamour of her past. I have never looked back.

I live in the present and for what is to come. The sleep I get now I never did before, and the smile I get from my baby is more important than the thousands of smiles I used to get before.

Pentagon bans computer flash drives

WASHINGTON D.C

The Pentagon has banned, at least temporarily, the use of external computer flash drives because of a virus threat officials detected on Defense Department networks.

While defense officials would not publicly confirm the ban, messages were sent to department employees informing them of the new restrictions. As part of the ban, the Pentagon was collecting any of the small flash drives that were purchased or provided by the department to workers, according to one message distributed to employees.

Workers are being told there is no guarantee they will ever get the devices back and it is not clear how long the ban will last.

Pentagon spokesman Bryan Whitman would provide no details on the virus Friday, but he described it as a “global virus” that has been the subject of public alerts.

“This is not solely a department problem, this is not solely a government problem,” Whitman said.

The Pentagon has acknowledged that its vast computer network is scanned or probed by outsiders millions of times each day. Last year a cyber attack forced the Defense Department to take up to 1,500 computers off line.

Officials said then that a penetration of the system was detected, but the attack had no adverse impact on department operations.

However, military leaders have consistently warned of potential threats from a variety of sources including other countries — such as China — along with other self-styled cyber-vigilantes and terrorists.

The issue has also been of concern at the Department of Homeland Security. A September audit by the DHS Inspector General recommended that the agency implement greater procedures to ensure that only authorized computer flash drives or other storage devices can be connected to the network there and that an inventory of those devices be set up.

DHS agreed with the recommendations and said some of that is already being done. DHS also said more software enhancements are in the works that will provide more protection.
